Art Education Philosophy at Garden Valley School District

•·   It is the philosophy of the Garden Valley Art Department that the visual arts play a central roll in all levels of the education process from kindergarten to college.  Visual arts are apparent everywhere in our daily lives and add quality and aesthetic connection to the world around us.  Visual art education develops the creative, critical, problem solving, and decision making processes which are so vital to student learning.

•·   The study of visual art promotes critical thinking skills, gives students the opportunity to express visual ideas, and expands the ability to communicate in nonverbal ways.

•·   The study of art appreciation develops aesthetic sensitivity and understanding of past and present art; emphasizes the value of the visual arts as an important realm of human experience, trains students to analyze and evaluate the structure of a work of visual art and expands their ability to perceive, interpret perceptions, and make aesthetic judgments.
